Parli Vaijnath, in Beed district, is worshipped as Vaidyanath — the “lord of physicians.” Set on a hill, it is one of the few Jyotirlingas where devotees are traditionally permitted to touch the lingam.
About Parli Vaijnath Jyotirlinga
Parli Vaijnath is revered as Vaidyanath, the healer, and pilgrims come seeking relief from illness. (The Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga is also claimed by Deoghar in Jharkhand; Parli is the Maharashtra site.) The hilltop temple is known for its distinctive brass-plated eastern door and was restored in the 18th century by Ahilyabai Holkar.
Unusually among the Jyotirlingas, devotees are traditionally allowed to touch the lingam here.
How to reach Parli Vaijnath
Parli Vaijnath has its own railway station with connections to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Nagpur. By road it is about 60 km from Latur and 105 km from Nanded, which offers the nearer airport. On the full circuit it is about 119 km from Aundha Nagnath (approximately 2.5–3 hours).
Darshan timings & best time to visit
The temple is generally open from about 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM and is open all year. October to March is the most comfortable season; Mahashivratri, Shravan Mondays and Vaikunth Chaturdashi draw the largest crowds. Confirm current timings with the temple trust before travelling.
